The Gift Of Healing
The gift(s) of healing is
just one of the Biblical giftings mentioned in the Bible (1
Corinthians 12:28). This particular gifting is given to
whoever
the Spirit chooses but those who have
believed and confessed that Jesus is the Christ, renounced
sin in their life and have received the Holy Spirit (and
the prayer tool of tongues-
"For
anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to
men but
to God.
Indeed,
no one understands him; he utters
mysteries with his spirit."-(1Corinthians 14:2 NIV)
may, if not having already being given the gift of
healing, certainly ask for it. However, I would recommend
that you go to www.christianfaith.com ,or http: //ag.org/, or www.bennyhinn.org or to
www.cbn.com to get more complete
information on healing.
There is also healing
provided through the anointing with oil by believing church
elders, healing that accompanies the preaching of the
gospel, healing through the laying on of hands (as in my
case). Believers are told to "Follow the way of love
and
eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of
prophesying," (1Corinthians 14:1 NIV)
**A
note of caution here. There seems to be a
tendency for people to pursue a gift without having
received the baptism in the Holy Spirit first or else
pursuing a ministry that promotes themselves and their
gifts to the extent of neglecting the main pursuit of their
own personal discipleship and sanctification.
There is also a dangerous tendency for people to say they
have the gift of prophesying, yet do not follow the
Biblical practice of having their prophecies verified.
Never pursue just part of the gospel.
That said, there are also quite a few people who claim to
be Bible "teachers" who vehemently assert that the baptism
in the Holy Spirit, with the accompanying gifts, is not for
today or who dare to go so far as to say it is wrong or
demonic. Some of these people may have mistakenly adopted a
"Cessationist" theology and need to learn a little more
about the healing Scriptures from those who do indeed have
these giftings.
There are those who claim to have this gifting but do not
and there are those who really do have this gifting. Take
the time to examine whether or not people are really being
healed. Do not dismiss someone's ministry, however, just
because someone believed that they were healed but later
found out they were wrong.
"Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow
to become angry"(James 1:19 NIV)
